By: | March 31st, 2016

Dating back to the 1950s, the iF Design Awards have been widely regarded as one of the most important and largest design competitions in the world.

Featuring a global panel of industry and design experts as judges, the iF Design Awards is as prestigious as they come, with a myriad of awards that are highly sought after by companies worldwide.

Recently, igus, a company which has already received a total of 32 iF Design Awards since 1987, took home three more awards for its wide range of motion plastic solutions.

This year, igus collected awards for innovative product design for the Triflex RSE robotic retraction system, CFRIP cable stripping system, and the e-bone headphone cable management tool.

Incredibly, this year’s haul brings the total number of iF Design Awards igus has collected in the past 29 years to a whopping 35 awards!

Not only is that statistic impressive in its own right, but it also goes to show the sheer quality and innovation igus puts into its products on a yearly, and even day-to-day basis.

Winning Motion Plastic Solutions:

Triflex RSE

iF DESIGN AWARD 2016, Discipline Product

Today, it is not only electrical and pneumatic cables that are routed on production robots but increasingly also bolts, rivets and nails. Since tight bending radii of the energy chain can lead to complications with these supplies, the new triflex® RSE relies on a very simple and linear retraction without arches and spring rods or guide rollers. In the triflex® RSE, the e-chain® is guided via a linear rail and held in tension with elastic cables. Different cables are used, depending on the required retraction force varying according to the size of the system.

CFRIP stripping system

iF DESIGN AWARD 2016, Discipline Product

The CFRIP® stripping system for cables in energy chains consists of a tear-resistant thread inside the cable for fast jacket stripping. Like a zip fastener, the cable is stripped to the desired length, so that cores can be easily removed from the jacket. Thus installers save up to 50% time which otherwise would have been lost while stripping cables. Also, no special tools are required. In moving applications in e-chains, the thread will not get detached accidentally, nor will it cause damage to the cores. The igus® CFRIP® range comprises 547 cables.

e-bone

iF DESIGN AWARD 2016, Discipline Product

With the e-bone cable guide, the problem of fastening the headphone cable in knots during transport as well as in use is a thing of the past. The whole expertise of the plastic expert igus has been incorporated into the material of the e-bone. The cable guide is on the one hand light and elastic and on the other very rugged and stable. These characteristics and its flat and round design ensure a comfortable fit. An unintentional detachment of the cable from the guide is avoided by a simple fastening of both ends.
