Amazon beat out Google, among others, in a domain auction for exclusive use of the .buy domain name. The wiinning .buy bid topped out at a whopping $4.6 million.

ICANN not only held an auction for .buy recently, but also for the highly sought after .tech, .vip, and .信息 (“Information” in Mandarin).

Unfortunately for Google, the company was outbid for the two domain rights it wanted, including .vip, which was purchased by Ireland-based domain reseller Minds + Machines.
