The electric race car, a specially adapted version of the GEN3 Formula E race car, underwent crucial modifications to ensure peak performance within the confined space. These adjustments included an enhanced battery power output of 400kW, delivering maximum acceleration and sustained high speeds.

The car was equipped with a new, softer iON Race tire compound to provide superior grip on the indoor track, ensuring optimal performance even at breakneck speeds. Furthermore, 3D-printed front wing endplates, wheel fins, and a wind deflector were incorporated to streamline the vehicle, minimizing air resistance and maximizing velocity.

Hughes started the record-breaking endeavor from a standstill within the ExCeL London events arena. He expertly maneuvered a challenging 130-degree turn at approximately 40 km/h, showcasing remarkable precision and control before unleashing the full power of the GENBETA car along the 346m straight of the custom race track.

The exhilaration peaked as the speed trap system, a sophisticated measurement device positioned just five meters before the braking zone, recorded the extraordinary moment when the car reached a jaw-dropping speed of 218.71km/h, establishing a new world record for indoor speed.

This record-breaking run is a testament to the incredible performance capabilities of electric vehicles. It also demonstrates the potential of Formula E to be a genuinely electrifying motorsport. Hughes and the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team have shown that the future of motorsport is indeed electric, and this record-breaking run will forever inspire generations of racers, engineers, and enthusiasts to push the boundaries of what electric vehicles can accomplish.
