RUD Chain Implements RFID Tracking To Keep Heavy Lifting Safe

By: | December 11th, 2014

The market leader in terms of safe lifting, RUD-Ketten, now offers a simple system to identify, register and administer products in a contact-free, error-free and efficient way for nearly all work equipment, based upon RFID technology (Radio Frequency Identification).

The RUD>ID<SYSTEM® is comprised of  RUD>ID<POINTs®, RUD-ID-EASY-CHECK® reading devices, and the web application RUD-ID-NET®.

Essentially, RUD now has an entire system dedicated to inserting RFID tags into the company’s products that helps keep track of RUD product maintenance and also determine previous inspection dates of items, for example chains.

RUD-Transponders, also known as RUD>ID<POINTS®, enable distinct identification of work equipment, either by a direct attachment of the transponder to the component itself (suspension link, hook or shortening element) or by attaching or bolting RUD-ID-TAGs®.

The core piece of this up-to-date technology is the pink-colored RUD>ID<POINT® (13.56 MHz) in the required diameter of 4 or 8 mm:

RUD now embeds its ID-Points in all of the lifting equipment it manufactures and also sells ID-Points to customers along with instructions for attaching them to existing equipment.

The RUD>ID<POINTS®  are available in sizes 8×3.25mm, 4×3.5mm and as RUD-ID-TAGS®. The new transponder variant, RUD-ID-Link, a bending link with a directly integrated transponder, offers a quick and robust refit possibility for all kinds of assemblies or other extremely loaded components.

RUD-ID-EASY-CHECK® reading devices easily read the unique identification numbers and transmit the data to RUD’s own web application, RUD-ID-NET®.

By utilizing RFID technology, RUD’s customers are able to easily read and store data about each piece of RUD equipment they own. This is a wonderful luxury to have, especially when it comes to safety and reducing maintenance costs.

The three combined basic elements above, RUD>ID<POINTs® , RUD-ID-EASY-CHECK® reading devices, and the web application RUD-ID-NET®, can also be used individually to pave the way for documentation and administration of work equipment in today’s up-to-date, digital era.

RUD>ID<POINTS®  are capable of withstanding the harshest conditions such as open-cast mining, long-term tests in sandblasting barrels, tests with aggressive pit water, salt water applications and extreme temperature applications at temperatures of -80°C up to +270°C, not to mention breaking and fatigues tests.

Each of the RUD>ID<POINTS® around the world have been provided with an unique identification number. This individual number can be read by different reading devices, e.g. the RUD-ID-EASY-CHECK® via USB-connection with a PC/laptop.

There are numerous reading variants available, for example the number can be directly read via a LCD display or can be transmitted via Bluetooth to a laptop directly. As an alternative, the data can be transmitted to various database or office systems (e.g. Access, SAP, WORD, EXCEL etc.). It goes without saying that all metal parts of the standard building sector as well as die shop and engineering can be refit with these robust chips and registered.

The new RUD-ID-BETTER-CHECK is a reading device variant (made in Germany) for capturing and reading the ID number. Weighing only 36 grams, this device can read 4 and 8 mm small chips, even in metal.

The RUD-ID-NET®  application has thrived for years and has now been elevated to a new level thanks to encouragement from customers and practical empirical values in terms of handling, speed and convenience.

An intelligent user guidance, clear menu structure and reduction of the functions are only some points which characterize the new release of the RUD-ID-NET®. Other points leading to a major improvement are the import function of old excel check lists, the possibility of an offline test, and the multilingualism of the application.

Another unique aspect of the RUD-ID-NET® application is that for all components serially provided with RFID, most customer-relevant and basic information, such as type of components, WLL, manufacturer, technical information, drawings, user manuals and other criteria, have already clearly been assigned. Thus, a time-consuming, manual capture and adding of data is no longer required.

With RUD-ID-NET, users can access, store and manage data about the item by logging onto the software, hosted by RUD’s cloud server provider.

Thanks to a big, permanently expandable product data base, all foreign products can be accepted and refit without any problems. Products already registered can simply be taken out of the database.

Many other things beyond chains, synthetics, and ropes can be tested as a result of the permanent expansion and improvement of the RUD>ID<SYSTEM®. Cross bars, ladders, doors, fire extinguishers, tools, and other working equipment can all be easily identified, administered and tested.
