Over Development: Clear & Present Dangers to Earth

In dealing with some of the world’s biggest challenges, the Population Media Center and the Population Institute have created the “Global Population Speakout Campaign” with a 316-page book “Overdevelopment, Overpopulation, Overshoot” as its centerpiece. You can page through the entire book below or buy the book online.

According to industry experts, the Internet will become increasingly image and video oriented with less and less text. The reason is people relate better to multimedia: images, color, and sound better communicate visceral emotions.

William Ryerson has written an introduction to the book in which he outlines the world’s maladies that result from over development including resource depletion, poverty, overpopulation, child brides, and other critical issues. The book includes 14 photo essays that are accompanied by quotations.

Are We Living in Hell?

For some humans, life is hell. According to Ryerson, we are living in an age of advertising that promotes over development and over consumption juxtaposed with vast numbers of humans living in abject poverty. Environmental ecosystems are under pressure, and an unprecedented number of species are becoming extinct.
