Benefits of Wine: It May Protect Teeth, Cure Bad Breath

By: | March 2nd, 2018

A little glass of wine each day may do you good

The list of the benefits of wine is long. Already known for being heart healthy, wine, in moderation, can also help you lose weight and can protect against a whole range of diseases.

Now, researchers have found some surprising new health benefits

New research suggests that drinking wine may cure bad breath and protect teeth by destroying the bacteria that cause cavities and gum disease. These bacteria can even trigger heart disease and cancer once they enter the bloodstream.

Researchers from the Spanish National Research Council in Madrid found that the antioxidant polyphenols in red wine were effective at preventing plaque-causing bacteria that stick to gums. In fact, polyphenols were found to be better than any commercially available products for preventing the growth of plaque-causing bacteria.

The latest findings could lead to the development of “wine-inspired” toothpastes and mouthwashes in the near future.
