Ample and Mitsubishi Fuso have partnered to deliver modular battery swapping to electric trucks. The partnership will see the integration of Ample’s Modular Battery Swapping technology into an all-electric FUSO eCanter at the early stage of development this winter.

FUSO eCanter, developed by Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, is a light-duty commercial vehicle designed for urban delivery applications. The battery-powered truck has a range of up to 200 kilometers (124 miles) on a single charge and a payload capacity of 4.5 tonnes (9920 lbs).

Ample’s next-generation swapping stations will enable electric trucks to get a full charge in just 5 minutes, maximizing on-the-road utilization and operational efficiencies. The drive-through experience simplifies the process for vehicle operators.

This partnership prioritizes electrification in the last-mile delivery sector, which accounts for 25-30% of emissions in towns and cities globally. Ample’s technology supports larger delivery vehicles, making it a significant step forward in the electrification of the sector.

Electric trucks are becoming increasingly popular. However, one of their biggest challenges is range anxiety. Drivers don’t want to be stranded on the side of the road with a dead battery, and they don’t want to have to wait hours for their trucks to recharge

Battery swapping is one solution to the range anxiety problem. With battery swapping, drivers can quickly and easily swap out their depleted battery for a fully charged one. This can be done in just a few minutes, and it allows drivers to keep their trucks moving without having to worry about range.

Both companies are committed to making a positive impact on the environment and accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles. With this collaboration, Ample and Mitsubishi Fuso aim to drive meaningful change toward a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable world.
