One of the most prominent figures in international shipping today, Evangelos Marinakis was born on 30th July 1967. He rose to prominence as the Chairman of the Capital Maritime & Trading Corporation. In addition, he also serves as an elected member of Piraeus City Council, as well as owning two football clubs: Nottingham Forest in England and Olympiacos Football Club in Greece.

Evangelos Marinakis studied International Business Administration and International Relations at a university in Watford, England, earning a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in each of these subjects respectively.

Between 1992 and 2004, Mr. Marinakis served as Capital Ship Management Corporation’s commercial manager. In this role, he oversaw the growth and success of many businesses that now form part of the Capital Maritime group.

It was in 2005 that Evangelos Marinakis established the Capital Maritime & Trading Corporation, a company that grew to become one of the global shipping industry’s leading players – managing a fleet of tankers, dry bulk carriers, and container ships.

Between 2007 and 2014, Evangelos Marinakis served as Capital Product Partners L.P.’s chairman of the board. He is also the founder of Crude Carriers Corporation, a company he led from 2010 to 2011 prior to its merger with Capital Product Partners L.P. in September 2011.

A lifelong supporter of Olympiacos Football Club, the team of his hometown, Piraeus, Mr. Marinakis was able to purchase a majority stake in the club in 2010. During his seven-year tenure as club president, he led the team to seven consecutive championship wins.

In 2017, Evangelos Marinakis also acquired Nottingham Forest, gaining the English Football League’s approval for his aspirational plans to restore the club to its former glory, including the redevelopment of the club’s historic grounds – culminating in the creation of a venue with world-class facilities and the largest stadium in the East Midlands.

By 2018, Evangelos Marinakis ranked 59th in the ‘100 Most Influential People in the Shipping Industry’ by Lloyd’s List, as well as featured in Tradewinds’ ‘Power 100 List of Top Shipowners and Operators’.

Lloyd’s List staged a special ceremony to honor Evangelos Marinakis’s considerable career achievements in 2017. At the event, which took place in the Greek capital, Athens, Mr. Marinakis received Lloyd’s List’s ‘Greek Shipping Personality of the Year award. Speaking on behalf of Lloyd’s List, Nigel Lowry indicated that the award was in recognition of the $1 billion investment made by Evangelos Marinakis to build fleet capacity in 2017, along with his ‘dynamic deal-making’. The Lloyd’s List Award also recognized his active contributions to sports, the media sector, and philanthropy.

Evangelos Marinakis remains as committed as ever to philanthropic pursuits, giving generously to a variety of worthy causes. Throughout his career, Mr. Marinakis has leveraged his position as a public figure and successful businessman to create positive change in society.
