Solaris Resources’ Warintza Copper Project Reaches Key Milestone With EIA Approval

By: | April 29th, 2026

Solaris Resources has moved its Warintza copper project another step closer to construction following the receipt of the technical approval of its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) from Ecuador’s Ministry of Environment and Energy.

The decision followed a review process spanning 18 months, during which regulators examined environmental conditions and plans for both engineering and long-term project management. The material included environmental baseline studies, water management, biodiversity protection, infrastructure design, geological understanding, and community engagement frameworks.

This stage of Ecuador’s permitting system requires a level of technical detail that often takes years to assemble and refine. With approval now in place, Warintza moves beyond one of the more time-intensive parts of the process and into the next phase.

A Milestone Tied Directly to Funding

With EIA approval confirmed, Solaris Resources has met the conditions required to draw US$50 million under its agreement with Royal Gold. That agreement, finalized in May 2025, totals US$200 million and is structured around the project’s development milestones.

A pair of conditions were tied to this tranche, including the completion of a pre-feasibility study in November 2025 and receipt of EIA approval. With both now completed, the second tranche becomes available.

The funding will support ongoing work at Warintza, including permitting activities, infrastructure planning, and exploration across the district. Another US$50 million tranche remains part of the agreement, subject to future conditions tied to the financing structure.

Consultation Process Approaching

With the technical review complete, the project now moves into the next required stage under Ecuadorian law: the government-led Free, Prior, and Informed Consultation process with Indigenous communities.

Preparations for this step are already underway. Government officials carried out site visits in 2025 to assess readiness, and the formal consultation phase is expected to begin soon.

The outcome of this process will then feed into the next set of approvals required to advance the project, with completion of the consultations to support the granting of Warintza’s Mining Exploitation Agreements, which are necessary to begin construction.

Solaris Resources is working toward a timeline that targets full permitting by the end of 2026.

Advancing Toward the Next Phase

Warintza’s EIA technical approval marks a major milestone for the project, completing a critical regulatory review and satisfying a key requirement to move it forward. With additional funding secured and community consultation approaching, Solaris Resources can now proceed through the final stages of Ecuador’s permitting process as it moves toward the next phase of development and, ultimately, mine construction.

Alongside permitting, the company continues to advance infrastructure development and district-scale exploration across the 268-square-kilometre Warintza land package in southeastern Ecuador.
