A New Step Toward Smarter Flexible Electronics
Researchers at Kyushu University have developed an innovative thin-film electronic technology that automatically connects and disconnects electrical circuits without relying on conventional plugs or permanent connectors. This breakthrough tackles one of the biggest challenges in flexible electronics—creating reliable electrical connections while protecting delicate ultra-thin devices. How the Technology Works

To solve this problem, the Kyushu University team designed a thin-film interface that aligns itself and forms an electrical connection whenever two components come into contact. When users separate the components, the interface safely breaks the connection without damaging the thin films.
