People are desperately clinging to the hopes of a Covid-19 vaccine before the year ends. But the chief executive of the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer has warned that not enough Covid-19 vaccines will be available for everyone before the end of 2024.

Adar Poonawalla, CEO of the Serum Institute of India (SII) says that the world would need around 15 billion doses of the Covid-19 shot if it is a two-dose vaccine. But it would take four to five years until everyone gets the vaccine on this planet. The reason is, the top pharmaceutical firms are not ramping up their production capacity swiftly enough to adequately.

Due to this desperate situation, some people have taken the ‘do-it-yourself’ approach to developing a vaccine for the novel coronavirus. According to news reports, dozens of scientists, technologists, and science enthusiasts around the world are whipping out do-it-yourself vaccine concoctions. They think it’s a better alternative than waiting for regulatory approvals for the COVID vaccine, which could take more than a year.

But scientists have warned that this self-experimentation without complete knowledge of what is going inside the body may put you at the risk of a much severe COVID disease. FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) is yet to comment on the legality of the DIY vaccines. Experts think that DIY vaccines actually would be subject to FDA regulation if the FDA enforced it.
