Samsung Granted Patent for Smart Contact Lenses With a Built-In Camera and Sensor

Smart contact lenses could soon become a reality after Samsung was just recently granted a patent in South Korea to further their development.

Samsung’s smart contact lenses will come equipped with a built-in camera and sensor, with embedded antennas transmitting data from the contacts to an external device.

And the best thing about the technology?

None of the neat features impact the user’s vision, which is a huge plus for someone who needs to wear contacts in the first place.

At the moment, Google appears to be the only other major company exploring smart contact lenses, owning two patents encompassing flexible electronics and sensors capable of reading chemical information near the user’s eyes.

Smart contact lenses could quite possibly be the next big thing in wearable tech, or the product could never even reach the commercial market.

Only time will tell.
