We can all agree on the fact that fixing flat tires is no fun.

However, the days of working on flats may soon be a thing of the past thanks to Bridgestone’s new air-free bicycle tires.

In lieu of an inflated tire, Bridgestone’s concept utilizes spokes spanning the inner sides of tires to maintain weight.

According to Bridgestone, the thermoplastic resins the spokes and rubbers are comprised of “help realize more efficient use of resources.”

On paper, the idea sounds awesome, but it remains to be seen how air-free bicycle tires hold up on long trips or when they encounter obstacles such as potholes, rocks, or bumps in the road.

Of course, if they are priced affordability and easy to replace, it might not matter if they don’t have the longevity of traditional bike tires.
