Toxic Shampoo: Nearly 100 Well Known Brands Found to Have Cancer-Causing Chemicals

By: | January 4th, 2016

Toxins are everywhere around us. From the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink, we are exposed to a variety of toxic agents every day.

Though we all are aware of these toxins, what we do not know is that the shampoo we use every day is also exposing us to harmful chemicals.

The promise of shiny and silky hair could actually be destroying your health.

A recent study has revealed that the toxins contained in these commonly used shampoos pose a real health threat.

The Center for Environmental Health (CEH) based in Oakland, California, found a cancer-causing chemical, Cocamide DEA, in 98 shampoos and soaps sold by major national retailers. Cocamide DEA is a chemically modified form of coconut oil that is used as a thickener or foaming agent in shampoo. It has been banned by California as a known carcinogen.

Not only does toxic shampoo contain shady substances, but some are even labeled and advertised as organic.

Manufacturers are not regulated by the FDA, which means they are free to put any toxic chemical they want into shampoos. The carcinogenic agents in these products can even lead to liver failure and nervous system disorders.
