This Marching Quadruped Has a Built-In Drone Tethered to Its Back

Every single week it seems like we have a new autonomous vehicle or robot equipped with a new feature or idea.

Now, it appears as if we have a marching quadruped that comes with a built-in quadcopter tethered to its back.

Occasionally, people capture images of animals hitching rides on other animals in the wild, but the thought of robots hitching rides on other robots is a bit unnerving.

On the other hand, the combination could be extremely useful in search and rescue missions where the quadruped can scurry along the ground while the drone films and scans the surrounding area from above.

The combination quadcopter-quadruped is the product of the Autonomous Systems Lab at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.

I’m excited to see how this hybrid robot creation shakes out!
