Kormaran Watercraft Transforms Into 6 Shapes, Making It the Most Versatile Water Vessel Ever

By: | February 24th, 2015

This shape-shifting vessel can be transformed as a conventional speedboat for quick maneuvers, a catamaran for stability, or even a three-hull trimaran.

Created by an Austrian company known as Kormaran, this most versatile vessel is capable of speeding on and above water. The company has named this vehicle after its name, ‘Kormaran.’

It can transform itself into six unique shapes while it is in action to let you enjoy the benefits of different types of boats without investing in individual models.

How Does It Work?

The key to transforming the vessel’s appearance lies in the kinetic actuated hulls that quickly change its shape and character while it is in motion.

Made of carbon fiber, stainless steel and titanium, the 6.4 meter (21ft) vessel uses electronically activated hydraulic arms to take different shapes. Kormaran can hit a top speed of 45mph (72kph) and can travel up to 100miles (161km). It has a seating capacity of a driver along with two passengers.

Funded by Porsche, the Kormaran is the result of an eight-year research project. The Kormaran prototype made its debut in June last year and will go into production soon. It will cost around $1.4 million.
