The technology can detect enemy drones, radars, and communication signals without transmitting any signals itself, allowing military forces to remain hidden while monitoring hostile activity.
Traditional radar systems work by sending out radio waves and analyzing the reflections that bounce back. However, these transmissions can also reveal the radar’s location to enemies. Guardian Vantage takes a different approach. Instead of actively scanning the environment, it quietly listens to electromagnetic signals already present on the battlefield. This passive method allows the system to gather intelligence while avoiding detection.
Built for Modern Warfare
Leonardo unveiled the system during the AOC Europe defense event in Finland. The company designed Guardian Vantage for deployment on military vehicles, naval vessels, and mobile command shelters. The system can rapidly identify and classify signals from drones, military radios, and radar networks in real time, giving troops a clearer understanding of nearby threats.
As drones become more common in conflicts around the world, militaries are searching for stealthier and more efficient ways to track them. Passive electronic warfare systems are gaining attention because they reduce the risk of counterattacks from anti-radiation weapons that specifically target active radar emissions.
