This Intelligent Waste Bin is the Future of Recycling

By: | January 22nd, 2015

With the rise of environmental concerns, people have become more conscious than ever of the need to recycle.

The use of a single bin to throw everything away doesn’t work anymore for a lot of homes. Instead, people are presorting their waste before disposing of it.

To save time, a redesigned waste bin, ‘the Totem,’ is making disposal and recycling very easy. This intelligent waste bin can help you sort things straight away in its different compartments. The best part is that it won’t waste any floor area and occupies the same space in your kitchen that a traditional bin will take up.

Introduced by a British kitchenware designer firm Joseph Joseph, Totem is being billed as an “intelligent waste system.” The clever design of the bin helps you sort paper into one container, bottles in another bin and leftovers into the compost bin. The bin has a built-in odor filter on the lid to keep the garbage smell under control.

This intelligent bin is available in 50 liter and 60 liter sizes. The 36 liter top compartment can be used for any general waste, and this is accessed directly from the top of the bin. The rest of the space is taken up by a bottom drawer to dump recyclables like bottles, packaging, and paper cups. It can be moved around easily since it sits on a wheeled base.
