Infineon Technologies and Enphase Energy have once again joined forces — this time to take solar inverter performance to new heights. Building on a successful supply partnership dating back to 2019, the two companies have now deepened their collaboration through the integration of Infineon’s latest 600 V CoolMOS™ 8 superjunction (SJ) MOSFETs into Enphase’s microinverter-based solar and battery systems.

The new generation of CoolMOS 8 technology is enabling Enphase to significantly reduce MOSFET resistance (RDS(on)), or resistance between the drain and source terminals. As such, this technology will lead to lower conduction losses, increased power density, and greater energy efficiency.  Furthermore, the simplified system design and superior thermal performance are helping drive down assembly and MOSFET-related costs — a win for both performance and the bottom line.

This is not the first time the companies have partnered on advanced power electronics. In 2019, Enphase signed a multi-year supply agreement with Infineon to ensure access to high-voltage transistors based on CoolMOS C7 Gold (G7) technology. That agreement proved instrumental in helping Enphase overcome component shortages and optimize the AC output stage of its IQ™ microinverters. Today, the renewed collaboration takes that relationship a step further, with both companies aligned on a shared mission to accelerate the global transition to renewable energy.

“Collaborating with Infineon has allowed us to leverage their CoolMOS 8 SJ MOSFET technology to enhance the performance and cost-effectiveness of our microinverter systems,” said Aaron Gordon, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Systems Business Unit at Enphase Energy. “This partnership underscores our dedication to innovation and excellence in the solar energy industry, and we are excited about the significant improvements in power density and cost savings that we are now able to offer our customers.”

The CoolMOS 8 SJ series features up to 33% lower gate charge and industry-leading turn-off speeds. Efficiency is up by 42% over previous generations, too. Moreover, with package options like SMD-QDPAK, TOLL, and Thin-TOLL 8×8, the technology is well-suited for diverse applications beyond solar, including energy storage, EV charging, adapters, and UPS systems.
