Facebook’s new data center, set to be constructed in Fort Worth, Texas will be run entirely on renewable energy.

The Texas data center represents the fifth for Facebook, accompanying the other four in North Carolina, Oregon, Iowa, and Sweden.

Facebook’s Director of Data Center Operations Ken Patchett explains that the Fort Worth location will be “one of the most advanced, efficient, and sustainable data centers in the world.”

The data center will reportedly be powered by a 200MW wind energy plant 90 miles down the road that will sit on 17,000 acres in Clay County.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the center is that it will be cooled completely by outside air.

That’s no small feat in the heart of Texas!
