Derby the Dog Receives an Upgrade to His 3D Printed Prosthetics to Improve His Mobility

By: | January 3rd, 2016

It’s been a while since I wrote about Derby the dog, popular for receiving 3D printed legs from 3D Systems.

Now I have an update, adding to the feel-good story, that Derby has actually received modified 3D printed prosthetics to make walking even easier.

He can now walk with a straight back and most importantly, sit like any other pup now, which he couldn’t do with his previous 3D printed prosthetics.

Based out of South Carolina, 3D Systems, which created the initial legs for Derby, made subtle changes to the new prosthetics such as adding more height and give and take to improve the dog’s mobility.

After using selective laser sintering to build the new legs, the results have been fantastic, allowing Derby to move in a bouncy and fluid fashion similar to any other dog.
