The World’s First FDA-Approved Bionic Eyes Have Arrived

By: | September 29th, 2014

Even though glasses have been around for hundreds of years and contacts were invented over 100 years ago, it has taken until this year for the world’s first FDA-approved bionic eyes to hit the market.

California-based company Second Sight developed the bionic eyes, utilizing its Argus II technology to create artificial retinas than can be implanted into patients. Currently, the only people allowed to receive a bionic eye are those with severe cases of retinitis pigmentosa.
