Unbelievable! Backwoods, Gun-Slinging DIY Engineer Built a Fusion Reactor in His Basement!

By: | March 5th, 2014

Doug Coulter used to work for U.S. intelligence agencies, building signal processing and radio gadgets…

But that was about a decade ago.

Today, Doug resides in the backwoods of Virginia, in small town by the name of Floyd, VA, and is an inventor, DIY engineer, gunsmith and competitive shooter.

For the past few years, Doug Coulter has ran an open science and engineering forum with its focus being on sharing and discussing trade secrets from software, to chemistry, to machining, nuclear applications, and how to create your own guns and ammunition.

Check out his shop below:

Coulter learned electrical engineering from parts scavenged in dumpsters and believes open sourcing is the way society should be in all aspects. Everyone can learn different things from each other in order to progress in his or her craft.

What is utterly amazing, which you can see in the video, is that Coulter built a guerrilla engineered fusion reactor with parts meant for other things.

Fusion power promises clean, abundant energy and developing a fusion reactor has been a major goal of nuclear physicists for years!

There have been advances in fusion research but a fusion reactor with the ability to produce more energy than it receives has yet to come to fruition.

Referring to his projects and the fusion reactor he built, Coulter says, “This is what I do for fun and giggles.”

The ultimate goal of fusion is to power the earth for eternity, without ever polluting the world.

According to Doug Coulter, he is in a better position to “break through” in his fusion research because he has the luxury of doing what he wants, when he wants, and doesn’t have the red tape and beaurocracy big scientists experience.

Coulter believes we are no longer decades away from a clean source of power, merely years, and that he is on track to anger power and gas companies in a trillion dollar industry with his research.

Doug Coulter can be summed this profound statement from him…

“I’m open sourcing all this, not because I care if they steal it from me, I care if they steal it from you!”

Doug believes in libertarian communism where he lives, and enjoys shooting things and blowing stuff up in his free time.

By living and loving life through hard, honest work, Doug Coulter just might change the world!
