2. Engineers and physicists must develop carbon sequestration methods – having too much carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere is believed to lead to global warming with dire long-term consequences for the planet. The process of removing carbon from the atmosphere and depositing it in a reservoir is currently under study by geoengineers. Some progress has been made whereby carbon dioxide is removed from flue gases emitted by power stations. Carbon sequestration would mitigate or defer global warming.
