It’s Time to Ditch Your Bike For a Boneshaker Big Wheel! Or Not…

By: | April 2nd, 2015

It may not be as fast or sleek as a traditional bicycle, but what the Boneshaker Big Wheel lacks in durability it makes up for in being all-around awesome.

Ron Schroer’s Boneshaker Big Wheel rolls and walks at the same time, a unique sight to witness, with the back legs of the bike inspired by Theo Jansen’s Strandbeests.

Similar to Jansen’s moving structures, Schroer’s Big Wheel can easily tip-toe over and around most terrain/obstacles.

The front of the Boneshaker Big Wheel is all bike however, or all penny-farthing, featuring a giant wheel to roll around on.

I’d feel safe cruising down the sidewalk on this puppy, but when it comes to off-roading, I’d rather stick with a mountain bike for now.
