Texas Man Saves His House From Flood Using an AquaDam He Bought Online

A record-breaking rainfall over several weeks has caused severe flooding and property damage in parts of Texas since late May. Authorities announced many counties as disaster areas due to high flooding throughout the state.

Thousands of homes were evacuated, but one family’s home in Brazoria County was high and dry. Randy Wagner, a Rosharon resident, used an AquaDam to protect his home from flood waters.

He discovered the AquaDam online, which as per the site is the ‘world’s largest water-filled cofferdam.’ He drove to Louisiana to purchase the dam. He installed it around his house himself. It took him few hours to fill up the 400 feet of plastic tube with water.

How did it work?

The weight of the water inside the 30-inch high tube kept the tube firmly in place while it absorbed the shock of the flowing water. Even as the flood water rose to around 27 inches, his house remained protected.

Wagner spent $8,300 for the AquaDam, but he thinks it’s a small investment in comparison to $15,000 on home repairs that he would have spent after the water receded.
