Pier 9 has released a video on Vimeo entitled “World’s First Tattoo by Industrial Robot” and it doesn’t disappoint.

It only lasts a few minutes, but the video is enough for me to determine I will wait to get a tattoo from a robot until the technology and its dexterity develops a bit more.

The industrial robot tattoo artist was developed by French designers Pierre Emm and Johan da Silveira and would be pretty neat if you didn’t have to be strapped down to receive a tattoo, in a scene that looks like something straight out of a Saw movie.

Not to mention, what about all those extra steps required to receive a simple industrial robot tattoo versus one from a human?

It needs to 3D scan the target area, then the art has to be entered into computer software, then the tat recipient must be strapped down, all before the machine starts penetrating your skin.

Pretty nuts, right?
