Philips Flattens the Light Bulb

By: | December 21st, 2013

The light bulb hasn’t evolved much since Thomas Edison gave the world the original design in 1879. That is, until now…

Philips has decided to take the traditional light bulb and make it flatter, in turn making it easier on the public when it comes to replacing light bulbs. The thinner design allows for  a much easier range of motion when it comes to screwing the light bulb in and out.

Seeing as how the new light bulb from Philips has a lifetime of 22 years, you may not have to worry about replacing your bulbs beyond a few times in your entire lifetime! The new light bulb, called the SlimStyle, is an LED powered 60-watt incandescent bulb.

The LED-based SlimStyle consumes far less power at 10.5 watts than your everyday light bulb and can also be dimmed. Look for these new flat bulbs to be available in January of 2014.
