After a month of voting, NASA has announced 63% of voters liked the design pictured above for the outer shell of their next spacesuit. The new Z-2 spacesuit looks like something straight out of Tron and the 233,431 people who voted for the design made it clear they felt strongly about the aqua-blue color versus the two other suits with different color schemes.
The voting contest was the latest attempt by NASA to utilize the Internet in order to get people excited about their research as well as upcoming plans and new technologies.
While the winning suit is set to be released in the fall of 2014, it will only be used for ground tests and training. Unfortunately, it looks like we might have to wait a while to see a “tron-suit” in space.
