New Norway Sky Bridge, Longer than Golden Gate Bridge

Norway Sky Bridge or The Hardanger Bridge?

This Hardanger Bridge has been given a new name by the hordes of Internet comments calling it the Norway Sky Bridge. The new name was born after seeing this photo below, showing the construction crew walking on the walkway on the bridge suspension cables. The rest of the bridge is shrouded in cloud giving the appearance that the suspension cable walkway was the actual bridge.

The main span of the Hardanger Bridge is 1,310 meters (4297.9 ft) – 20 metres longer than the Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco. This makes the bridge the longest in Norway and 9th longest in the world.

The towers of the bridge must stand on shore due to the depth of the fjord. The maximum water depth near the bridge is about 500 metres (1,600 ft), and the mountains surrounding the fjord are about 1,200 metres (3,900 ft) high.

The planned cost is close to 330 million dollars and is planned to open in June 2013.
