The Urban eTruck is a new prototype stemming from a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Daimler Trucks.

Described as a heavy-duty all-electric vehicle, the Urban eTruck weighs 29 tons and features a range of 124 miles.

Three lithium-ion battery modules make up the whole battery pack of the truck, which Mercedes hopes can be utilized for making city deliveries when it goes into production in the early 2020s.

As battery technology and electric vehicle development and research continues to advance, Mercedes and Daimler felt now was the perfect time for the Urban eTruck.

In fact, the two companies have been testing a small fleet of light-duty electric vehicles for about a year now, essentially just more compact versions of the Urban eTruck.

Autonomous heavy-duty trucks appear to be all the rage these days, but we’ll see which automotive companies can get their vehicles out to market first and ready to make deliveries.

The Urban eTruck certainly seems promising but is years away from coming to fruition.
