The Saudi Arabian government has announced that $2.2 billion in funding has been secured for the construction of Jeddah City, which will include the Jeddah Tower, set to becomes the world’s tallest building upon its completion.

Currently, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai holds the record for the world’s tallest tower at 2,716 feet tall, which the Jeddah Tower will surpass at upwards of 3,280 feet tall when it is done being constructed in 2018.

The Jeddah Tower, also known as the Kingdom Tower, will be the world’s first building to reach 1km high, a mind-boggling height and a testament to how technology has evolved when it comes to engineering, construction, and architecture.

Designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the Jeddah Tower’s construction up to the 26th floor has already been completed and will feature a total of 200 floors when it’s all said and done.

There won’t be a bad view either as the $1.23 billion project will overlook the Red Sea.
