Google-Owned Boston Dynamics Introduces ‘Spot’, a 160-Pound, Adorable Dog Robot

By: | February 13th, 2015

Boston Dynamics, owned by Google, released a YouTube video this week featuring the company’s latest robot, “Spot”.

Spot is perhaps the most likeable robot from Boston Dynamics because it is designed after man’s best friend, and closely resembles a dog when moving around.

The robot might not look it, but Spot is 160 pounds and capable of climbing stairs, handling different terrain, stabilizing itself, and trotting through office buildings, as seen in the video.

Of course, Spot is not simply for kicks and giggles. It will eventually have a practical application as many of the early Boston Dynamics robots were specifically designed to be used alongside soldiers in combat.

For now, however, we can sit back and enjoy watching the capabilities of Spot and how Google, through its acquisition of Boston Dynamics, continues to push the envelope when it comes to the robotics industry.
