According to estimates from various states around US a first DUI or Driving Under the Influence of alcohol offense costs from $5,000-$24,000. This expense pales in comparison to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics showing that of the 33,561 fatalities in traffic crashes in the US last year, 10,322, or 33%, were caused by drunk driving.

A company called BACtrack has created Vio, a smartphone breathalyzer for alcohol testing small enough to fit on a keychain and smart enough to transmit your body’s alcohol content via wireless Bluetooth to your iPhone or Android smartphone.
Vio works using sensors, a small mouthpiece, and simple electronic components to sample, screen, isolate and analyze breath content searching for proteins and other markers that reveal alcohol use and calculate the percentage of blood-alcohol.
Vio went on sale on July 15, 2014 with BACtrack selling personal, professional and smartphone breathalyzers in more than 10,000 retail stores in North America and 25 countries worldwide.
