By: | August 10th, 2015

Icona, a Shanghai-based design and engineering firm, is set to unveil the Icona Titanium, the world’s first titanium sports car, at this week’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance opening tomorrow, August 11, and running through Sunday, August 16. The event has run nearly every year since 1950 and some call it the world’s premier celebration of automobiles.

The event invites strictly the most beautiful and rare automobiles and the event takes place on the 18th fairway at Pebble Beach Golf Links. The event not only celebrates automobile, but annually raises money, $16 million last year, for charities. This year’s event, sponsored by Rolex, Pebble Beach RetroAuto, and Pebble Beach Motoring Classic, features the Pebble Beach Auction, run by Gooding & Company.

The Icona Vulcano Titanium

One of this year’s main attractions will be an updated, closer to production ready, Icona Vulcano from China, which appeared in the 2013 event. The car is made from titanium and carbon fiber and is said to be a combination of Chinese engineering and Italian design.

According to reports Icona may manufacture a small number of Vulcanos with the supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 V-8 engine used in the C6 Corvette ZR1. To pique the interest of potential buyers the car now sports a fully functional interior. According to Chinese sources the car reaches 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.8 seconds to reach 60 mph, 120 mph (192 km/h) in 8.8 seconds and has a top speed for 220 mph (354 km/h).

The following video shows design work done to create the Icona Vulcano.
