A Luxury Automobile “Made in China”

The Hongqi line of cars is owned by Chinese automaker FAW Car Company, a subsidiary of the FAW Group, which has a 60-year history of automobile production and innovation. The company employs 120,000 people and sells products in 70 countries

The “Chinese Rolls”

The Chinese have been building the Hongqi luxury cars since 1957, and there have been four generations of cars. The Hongqi line began with the HQE Series, intended as ceremonial cars for the Communist central government elite such as Chairman Mao and Deng Xiaoping. But the most recent, the L5, is the most impressive and most expensive at $1.2 million, up from its introductory price of $800,000.

China is not only minting expensive cars, but the millionaires needed to buy them. The first Hongqi L5 was purchased at the 2014 Shanghai Auto Show.

The following video shows the Hongqi L5.
