BMW and Mercedes-Benz apparently did not want to be left on the outside looking in when it comes to subscription plans for cars.

The two companies have announced pilot programs for a subscription service that covers not only car payments, but maintenance and insurance for customers, joining Audi, Cadillac, and Porsche in the automotive subscription model industry.

Ultimately, the goal of the initiatives is to offer a more simplified payment structure, with added flexibility when it comes to swapping out your vehicle for a better one — this means no more having to wait out a lease or finance plan.

The guinea pig, if-you-will, in the subscription model for cars will be Volvo, as the company plans to release a service starting from $600 per month this spring that enables customers to get a new car after 12 months.
