Amtrak to Roll Out 28 High Speed Trains for Its Acela Express Service in 2021

Technology is rapidly advancing and with it, so are our transportation systems.

Amtrak will be the latest company to deploy futuristic transportation with its announcement that it will roll out 28 high speed trains in 2021.

The initial high speed trains will be utilized specifically for the company’s Acela Express service located in the Northeast, part of a $2.45 billion investment in the Northeast Corridor.

According to Amtrak, the high speed trains are capable maxing out at 186 miles per hour but will begin operation at 160 miles per hour.

Features of Amtrak’s high speed trains:

  • Increase passenger capacity by 35%
  • Adjustable reading lights
  • More outlets and USB ports
  • Improved food and beverage service
  • Better Wi-Fi
  • 30% lighter for 20% less energy consumption

It is worth noting that the prototype of the high speed trains will be ready by 2019, with testing until 2021. Don’t expect all 28 to be fully operational until 2022.
